ESA Contribution Based Support Group was created by Featheredfriend
Hello,
I have received contribution based ESA (support group) for nearly 3 years.
I received income related ESA before this.
I keep being asked by DWP for housing costs and I keep replying that DWP doesn't pay any.
Their letters state that they are paying housings costs in their calculation at the top and then it says "because you receive contribution based ESA we will pay X amount.
How can i get them to accept that they do not pay any housing costs?
Would be grateful for any help

I think you need to check what type of ESA you are actually receiving.
You cannot be moved from ESA(IR) to ESA(CB), ESA(CB) is always payable if the claimant is entitled to payment!
It is possible that you are receiving ESA(CB) with an ESA(IR) top up and this is why your payment letter refers to housing costs.
It might be useful for you to get face to face advice where a trained advisor can go through your paperwork to see what you are receiving.

Many thanks for your reply - I was moved from ESA IR&CB to ESA CB when I started to receive occupational pension. I lost all elements of IR ESA then.
I don't receive any IR ESA and my ESA CB is reduced to take pension onto account.
Thank you for your advice, much appreciated.

Ah, that clarifies the issue FF! If you have not previously escalated the issue and had a call back from a manager, it might be worth doing so now. The call centre staff are often poorly trained and do not fully understand the system. A manager could be expected to have better understanding.
