Hi there,

What weight if any would a report/letter from a Chiropractor have in regards to a PIP application? Are Chiropractors regarded yet as health professions? Certainly the title 'chiropractor' is a protected one in the UK.

Thanks.

Chiropractors have one of the best standings amongst the so called alternative therapies.
Unfortunately I don't think this applies to the DWP who are only interested in GP and consultant reports from qualified medical degree holders and BMA members.

Hi,

Would I be correct in saying walking around within the home can be counted towards the criteria for moving around?

Hi C123,

No !

As clearly stated in our : PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link down the page) at the top of page 58 :

"Q14 Moving around.

What this activity is about :

This activity looks at your physical ability to stand and then move around outdoors."

and at the 3rd Para of Page 61 :

"According to DWP guidance: ‘This activity should be judged in relation to a type of surface normally expected out of doors such as pavements and roads on the flat and includes the consideration of kerbs.’ So if you have difficulty with uneven surfaces and kerbs, give details on your form."

This is also reiterated at Page 120 of the latest version of : The PIP Assessment Guide which was updated on 28th July 2015.

"Notes:

This activity should be judged in relation to a type of surface normally expected out of doors, such as pavements on the flat and includes the consideration of kerbs."

B&W PIP Resources.

As I keep saying, all the necessary information is available in-site if members would only take the time to look for it ! :)

I was specifically asked how far I could walk, I said room to room I don't go out to walk anywhere, when I looked blank, not sure of length in meters, it was asked for how long can you walk for example room to room. Again I said nothing looked confused and was asked, 1 minute? I shook my head, how long then, 30 seconds? I said possibly, maybe, slowly, I don't walk I wobble, sway, I lose balance etc. lol no need to go any further into my problems, suffice to say the questions are shifting.

This question about how far you can walk, if it can only apply to people who walk outside, in theory. Therefore, If you don't go outside and the only time you walked outside recently was the 1 yard from car drop off to assessment centre reception door, then the 5 yards to waiting room, and the last 6 yards to assessment room. If its just outdoors non of that can be included, so they have to ask for some other means of proof of walking or you are officially straight through on the enhanced mobility. I suspect that would be a DWP Capital letters NO for any assessor.

Elisa

Whilst the test looks at the claimants ability to walk outside it is reasonable for the asessor to make assumptions about their ability to do this from observations of the claimant walking indoors.
