Terrified, pip assessment tomorrow

My carer got a call from Capita today, telling me to come in for an assessment. I am absolutely terrified, they have given really short notice and I have difficulties communicating as I have aspergers syndrome. We filled in the form last month but my mum had just died which took up all our time so we spent little time in the form, after my experience filling in the esa form which was traumatic it was also something I didn't want to go through again so I let my carer do it. Looking at what we put now it was badly filled in and so much was omitted. I also have a nurse who sees me who specialises in aspergers and we told them to contact her for a report, I doubt they have done this and she's away at the moment so we can't even contact her for support. Just the fact that they've called me in without sending an appointment letter and with just one day's notice suggests that they've already made up their mind

I'm sorry that this has all come at such a difficult time for you It's a bit late now - but you do not have to accept any appointment if you are not given 7 days notice (from the date on the letter). Now that the appointment has been made, you should read our PIP guides which has a section explaining what to expect from the face2face assessment.

PIP help for claimants

You need to understand that how you get to the appointment will form part of the assessment and you are likely to be watched from when you get outside the assessment centre until you have left. If you have new information you can take it with you and ask the assessor to read it before they start.

Assessment is this afternoon, am really scared about it as I lock up if faced with a lot of questions and find it difficult to think clearly. My carer is supposed to be answering the questions for me but not sure if this will be allowed and they'll want me to talk. I can't guarantee that I won't break down and completely mess it up.

Assessment went a lot better than I expected. The assessor had a genuine understanding of my conditions and could see that I'd got worked up about it and that I was feeling uncomfortable. All the questions he asked me were in your guide so I knew how to answer them and the assessor and my carer helped me with that as well. So now down to the DWP, could take up to eight weeks to get a decision. Thank you for the support and advice, that was a difficult 24+ hours.
