Bit of forward thinking here but currently appealing against ESA non award and will eventually have to apply for PIP. Have been getting DLA indefinitely since 1999 middle rate care despite having worked until 3 years ago. I understand PIP different to DLA and can be linked to ESA - anyone get PIP after being turned down for ESA or know if this is possible? Thanks

They are classed as separate benefits, whilst one can sometimes be used to support an award of the other, a failure on one cannot be used to deny a claim for the other.
