PIP Home Assessment was created by ba.tinsley
Had a Face to Face Home Assessment for PIP the other day. Just thought it would benefit other members of exactly what happened. Apart from me being extremely nervous and stressed, the assessor was a very "nice" polite and friendly lady.
Having introduced herself at the door, she came in and sat down with laptop on knee. She asked me about all my medical conditions. When or how these started, what are the symptoms of these and how those conditions effected me, pain , mobility what I can & can't do etc. How are these being monitored or reviewed,by who and how often. She then went through all my medications and asked what I take them for, how often they are taken, side effects of the medications, how this effects me.
We then went through the . main questions on the PIP Application Form. Can I prepare food, cook a meal, make a snack, dependent on the answer, she asked why not, what stops you etc. are you not able too....Same for eating & drinking, Managing Treatments, washing & bathing and all the other questions.. on the PIP form. They appear to be clearly checking that" you" filled in the form not someone else with a good idea what to put to get enough points. She typed on the laptop the whole time, obviously do not know what she was typing in. She was at least an hour going over the contents of the PIP application form, questioning or probing into the answers given.
I must confirm she was very friendly and chatty during the assessment, which did put me at ease.
Lastly we got th the physical examination. 10 tests. Can you ,(1) put your arms above your head,(2) put them behind your back,.(3) Touch your feet while sitting. (4)Squeeze her fingergers with both hands,(5) push her away while still squeezing her hands. (6)Touch the end of her fingers with your finger & thumb. (7)Stand up. (8)Walk forward, (9)stand on tip toes.(10) Bend knees while standing still. Physical over.
Whole assessment took an hour and 15minutes
Advice - Have a copy of your PIP Claim form with you or a copy of your answers to the additional information box for each question.
- Take your time answering the questions, make sure you cover the answer completely.
- Have someone who knows you well with you to addthe bits you my forget.
Hope this helps those with Face to Face assessments to come.
I am now waiting for the dreaded brown envelope to arrive.....
Good Luck to all.

Hello Batty

Thank you so much for your email; it will be a great help to other people who are concerned about what goes on at a home visit. You seem to have coped with it amazingly well. Good of you to consider other people when you have your own concerns.

I hope you find that your award is what you wanted; should it NOT be, then get back to us and we will help with the next step (which I hope you won't need!!)

Thank you again :)
