Post Office Card Accounts

I'v not had a bank account for over ten years now due to financial difficulties I suffered in the past and I don't want or need one now. What should I do?, I'd like to stay with the Post Office but looking online I see they charge £5 per month for a Cashcard Account and, it's either that or a Current Account with direct debits etc. which I definately don't want.
Any advice welcome
Thanks

I have until now used my Post Office Card Account, which was basically forced upon me by the Jobcentre some years ago as they were doing away with GiroCheques.

The problem appears to be that Post Office accounts use a unique electronic service to transfer money in and out, current benefits support this service, but Universal Credit does not and will not.
So at the moment you do not need to do anything, but when your benefits are moved to UC you may not have a choice.

I am not affected by UC.
I receive ESA contribution based only and I do not receive housing benefit or council tax benefit.
Does anyone know if they are doing away with post office accounts altogether, as I say Universal credit does not affect me, so I am wondering why they have asked me to change ?
The letter says that I have to telephone (I dont cope with phone calls) or there is a form included to return to them.
Thanks.

At the moment it is unclear how Contribution Based benefits such as ESA(CB) and JSA(CB) will be paid, but it's not impossible for these to be managed through the Universal Credit system even if the claimant is not technically receiving a UC payment.
