Transitional Protection ends 2020? was created by freddyfish
Reading IB to ESA Transitional Protection info it seems that Transitional Protection ends 2020 April. Can anyone confirm this?
As I understand it this means the extra I got under Invalidity Ben. From 1994 will then be taken away and my occupational pension , not counted at present, will be accountable from April 2020 and I will get nothing even if I am in the support group.
Now rules are rules so if that is the case hard luck on me but folks need to know how this affects them because in my case I will then have 12 months with no ESA at all before I get to pensionable age of 66yrs and clearly need to plan for this as my Occ Pension is not substantial enough to live on alone. There must be lots of folks in this position, some younger than I who will need to budget for a few years without ESA till they get their state pensions.
I hope I have misunderstood it but I do not think so ...anyone confirm?

Hello freddyfish
Well, I have googled 'Transitional Benefits ending in 2020' and there is a (rather wordy) document available which might answer your question. In all honesty it is slightly outside the remit of the site, and I would recommend that you download the document and read it at your leisure. it IS very wordy - but it might be what you need to explain what will happen and how you can prepare for it.
Sorry not to be of more help; perhaps other members will have more knowledge and/or experience of the problem.and will be able to explain things more clearly to you.

Notwithstanding Shelam's comments above.
Looking at the ESA Transitional Regulations 2010 I can see a clear reference to April 2020 in regard to Transitional Payments
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/875/regulation/21/made
but no such reference for the changes to the ESA Regs 2008 that disregard certain pension payments
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/875/schedule/1/made

I'm in the same boat! I've read it as FF has but if Gordon is right then that's one less problem!

There is also this new Statutory Instrument, removing the 2020 end date for transitional protection www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/102/made/data.pdf
