PIP claim was created by Haha
Hi Gordon.
Hope you are well.
I have a query regarding PIP and ESA forms.
I think I have an overlap on the descriptors of both and would like to show you. Would it be possible to send you two scanned documents via email?
Thank you in advance.

I'm afraid we cannot enter into correspondence with members by email.

There are some areas of overlap between ESA and PIP but there can still be significant differences in the actual assessment criteria, if you can be more specific we'll do our best to help.

Hi Gordon. Thank you for confirming.
From my ESA appeal on mobilising I have 9 points (repeatedly mobilise 100 metres).
On ESA getting about I have 6 points for being unable to get to a specified place with which I am unfamiliar without being accompanied by another person.
Coping with social engagements- engagement is not possible for the majority of time due to difficulties relating to others or significant distress experienced by the individual- I have 6 points here.
Appropriateness of behaviour with other people due to cognitive impaired or mental disorder - Occasionaly has uncontrollable episodes of aggressive or disinherited behaviour that would be unreasonable in any workplace - I have 9 points for this.
I have 15 points for coping with change on ESA but It doesn't seem to have an overlap here..
I have a supporting letter from my GP but it doesn't state how far I can walk for, would that be any good?

Do you think it would be useful to send this overlap document to support my PIP reapplication?

Many thanks in advance.

The ESA Mobilising test is stricter than the PIP Moving Around test, it assesses you as only being able to walk 50m-100m this would score you 4 points for PIP.

The criteria for the two Going Out activities are sufficiently different that scoring points for ESA would not necessarily mean you would for PIP which has stricter criteria.

The two socialising Descriptor for ESA appears to be tougher than the PIP equivalent so your 6 points may translate, however, the PIP activity has mixed criteria whereas the ESA ones are progressive (e.g. they get harder) and the most obvious overlap would require you to show that your meet the 8 point Descriptor for PIP, so I would expect you to have to provide additional information to support this.

Appropriateness of behaviour has no PIP equivalent although you may be able to tie it in to socialising.

So you need to consider whether these are helpful or not to your PIP claim, if you think that on balance they are then include them, but don't assume that those reading your form will make the links, you need to specifically reference the ESA report in your answers.
