Changing details of bank account where PIP is paid

Hello. My son who receives PIP wants to switch to another bank account as the account he currently has pays zero interest. After he switches he would need to have his PIP paid into the new account as old accounts are automatically closed during the switching process. Can he change his details with DWP without having to start an entirely new claim and affecting his benefit? He will not speak on the phone so it would need to be done in writing.

Yes, your son just needs to write to DWP, at the address at the top of his most recent letter about PIP, and give them the details of the new account and the date from which it should be used.
