Yes, your friend can submit an SAR request if she thinks the DLA stuff will still be helpful.

She can also ask to see her GP records, these should include letters from specialists etc. Then she could copy anything that might be helpful. The downside of this course of action is that a)your friend would have to go to the GP surgery and b) there would probably be a charge

Requesting your medical records

Charging for medical records

I'm thinking maybe doing a SAR request for the info on her DLA claim. Wonder if this is a good idea, as if the info is quite old might not be useful.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks

There's no reason why she shouldn't, she'll know whether it is available or not and what it says.

Thanks, the Gp's know her well and are supportive so think this shouldn't be a problem. In particular her consultant's report saying she can walk no more than 10m. She also has had referrals to occupational therapy, pshycio, psychologists and social services (I think) so should be letters from that.

The difficulty is, her eyesight is also going. I wonder if the GP's would support her with looking through the file with her. i reckon they might if she made a double appointment.

There's a letter somewhere I saw for asking the doctors for info and with boxes for the PIP criteria, maybe I'll find that for her.

Just to update on this I think we are going to make some notes together when I go and see her at home in the net month or two, and then I might try and get them typed up for her.

She can then get the letters together, so when the PIP form arrives she is better prepared. We will then just be able to get the info signed and sent back with the minimum stress.

One quick query; she has had the flat adapted for her disability and this has been done with help from the OT (occupational therapist) I think.

So there is an adapted shower / wet room, and all open plan to help her and special doors which open with a remote, also the car is adapted with a hand control. Not sure if they might do a home visit but for the form shall we just describe these things and if they need to they can come see for themselves? We don't need to enclose pictures of these do we? I am wondering if may be letters about these things and will try and ask.

The wet room could be relevant to Washing and Bathing but your friend will need to explain why they are required, they won't score points by just having one. An assessor won't have an interest in seeing it.

Thanks Gordon. She asked me today about self-catheterising as she has to do this now. I suppose it might come under incontinence or needing an aid.

As she sadly has severe secondary progressive MS now and her health is declining I'm am hopeful she may get a decent award with PIP. She will need care in future, and has a spare room except from the bedroom tax for this and to store equipment. It was all altered by the council on advice of the occupational therapist.

She is going to have a welfare officer from the MS society help with the forms i think; they have already sent her some helpful info about filling them in for MS. So possibly won't need to post again.

Thank you for the help.
