PIP assessment

PIP assessment was created by Kate
I accompanied a family member two weeks ago to a recent PIP medical assessment. The claimant is aged 66 and is migrating from DLA(with previous indefinite award to PIP).

Received a letter today informing that:

"following a referral from general medical practitioner an appointment for an assistant practitioner to carry out an assessment has been made on 8th August 2016 at 10am: Venue patients home.

This letter was only delivered this afternoon and was apparently from the " Local Community Therapy Group" not the DWP.

Questions

Has this happened to any other members?

Who would have made any referral?

What is a general medical practitioner?

Will the claimant have to comply with the request at such short notice and what is the purpose of any such assessment?

Any advice members could offer on the matter would be most welcome

Hi Kate and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The 'general medical practitioner' is your relation's GP. As such, this assessment will have nothing to do with his/her PIP claim. The only way to find out more is to contact the GP and ask.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
