Claiming PIP Fluctuating conditions was created by Basho
I have had Ulcerative Colitis for over a decade as one of a number of complex health problems. I was able to claim ESA at Support level in 2014 partly due, at that time to a particularly enduring flare-up of the condition. At the moment I have started a claim for PIP on the basis of all my health problems but am unsure as how to deal with Q5, related to toilet needs and incontinence. UC is a fluctuating and unpredictable illness and at the moment I am in a relatively quiet spell with only low level symptoms but this could change given that my general health is poor. I have some written evidence from my GP that I sent with my 2014 ESA claim about the severity of the flare-up and it's impact at the time but looking at Q5 on the PIP form currently I don't know if I can fulfil the descriptors or express how condition effects me. Have you any suggestions?
Thanks Basho

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

All of the PIP activities must be completed "reliably" and on "the majority of days" not to score points, so you need to explain how your condition fluctuates over time, this can be as long as a year. Have a look at the PIP Claim guide for more information.
You can use the ESA letter but it would be worth your speaking to your GP to see if they can provide more up to date information, other wise you will need to show that your conditions have not improved since the letter was written.

Thank you Gordon. Here is another question! I started my claim for PIP on the 31st of August by phone, so am still filling the form out. Will my claim be assessed on the 'old' criteria or those in the recently issued revised edition, where there are some differences, especially in Q1 of the Mobility section? Thank you!

I assume you are talking about the DWP guidance, the Descriptors themselves (the legal definitions), have not been changed since they were issued in 2013? I would expect that they will be using the new guidance, however, most of what has been written down has been in use for some time, certainly by DWP Decision Makers/
