Pip medical assessment breaks all known absurdity

I have always thought that assessors for pip at least have a brain that functions. However the latest deserves a Darwin award for effort. at a recent medical. He suffers from chronic pain. Has limited mobility. So he was assumed to have walked from his car into his home. And from his car into work that he can walk 50 metres. No mention about the pain that actually causes. He has a degree on psychology so he is not dyslexic and does not show depression. He was assumed to have driven himself to the medical, which he did not. Assumed to have driven to uni and travelled and made the journey himself. He works at everything g he does. The number of times assumed was used was mind boggling. From full dla and mobility to assuming that he really has no disability at all. I can only assume that the assessor assumed some sort of Devine intervention had obscured to make a nasty rehabilitating hereditary condition just went away. I hereby award the particular assessor with a gold star Darwin award. And of course a letter requesting they look again. I'm already drafting an appeal. The guides here are so useful. I only wish the government would recognise disabled people can be educated work and be a valuable member of society.a d still be suffering from disability that if the likes of ids would go crying home to mummy!!!!

Welcome to the forum.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with his claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You should contact the DWP for a copy of his assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that he meets the criteria, there are many reasons he may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that he walked 50m, he did but they have failed to document that he had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

thank you so much for your response, as soon as we get the response then I can start formulating the appeal. I need also to get a copy of the assessment. I did not know that I cold get a copy at the reassessment stage.

thank you again

By the way I have dyslexia too, a variation that comes with the HME..

As research is advancing there are now links to a variation of autism too Iwhich to be honest I can now see is others that have HME.
