hi all, i have came back to benefits and work after i managed to get my esa sorted a couple of years ago thanks to benefits and work's great information.
now however i have to put in a claim for pip, i have received the forms and they have to be returned by the 26th november. my problem is that i had to make a doctors appointment 2 weeks ago, i just made one with any doctor not my normal doctor just so i could be seen by someone, to my surprise she told me that she was now my named doctor. i asked her why i have not been told this and she replied, sometimes we do and other times we dont.
i explained to her that i had to swap to pip, and the last time i put in my original claim for disability living allowance they sent the forms to my named doctor or so i thought, i was flatly refused dla. i then contacted blackpool to ask for a copy of the information they had received from my doctor, when it arrived, to my horror a doctor who i did not know or had ever seen filled in my information that the dla required. he had stated that there was nothing wrong with me and had no issues. i then made an appointment to see this doctor, i let him know what i thought and told him how he came to his answers, he then told me he was sorry and he would then write me a letter of apology and the correct information that dla required.
it took me a year to get it sorted out and got my award of dla.

now my problem is that i saw 1 doctor who was a stomach specialist who knew everything about my severe ibs issues, he has now left. my named doctor who knows everything about my issues i have has now passed me to this new doctor. when we saw her she was so patronising towards me, and when i tried to explain my issues to her she just told me to give her a copy of my pip form to copy down what i tell them. i am just so worried that she will get her forms to fill in before i have done mine and she gives out the wrong info.
i am seeing her this afternoon with a list of all my issues and how they affect me and my partner, my named doctor knew me inside out so am really worried.

i have been suffering severe anxiety for about a year now of which i am receiving medication for and this is just making things so much worse. i dont want to go through all what we went through with the dla fiasco.

should i send in my esa report with my pip forms ?, its just that the report is good and states that i could no way use a wheelchair or even think about going back to work as it would never be possible.
i have downloaded the info packs and have just found out that any information i have from hospitals and specialists over 2 years old will not be used for a pip claim. this is an issue as there is nothing else the hospitals and specialists can do for me, so they have told me.
this is a real problem if this is the case as i have no up to date records apart from what this new doctor i dont know will tell them.
just another patient chucked on the scrap heap i think.
thanks for all the help in the past, i just hope i can get it sorted for the future. i am so scared what this doctor will or wont tell them.

Your GP will not be contacted before you have returned your PIP forms, unlike ESA where the assessment process is managed entirely by Maximus (was ATOS), the PIP form is issued by the DWP and returned to them, the Assessment Provider is not involved until this happens.

If you want to include the ESA report then you need to tie it to the PIP activities for it to have any effect, be aware that neither the usage of a wheelchair not you r ability to work is considered for PIP, although these matter may imply problems with the PIP activities that would be relevant.

Although reports that are over two years old will in general carry less weight than those are newer, this does not mean that older reports cannot be used, it depends on your conditions and whether they are ones that are likely to respond to treatment, if not or they are likely to get worse over time then they would still be of relevance to your claim.

thanks gordon,
my issues cannot get any better only worse, my surgeon operated on my spine twice but on the second time he actually cut into my spinal chord and have been told it will not get any better. i have several prolapsed discs as well in my back, i also have a piece of bone broken off in my neck and it is stuck in my spinal chord along with a prolapsed disk in my neck. i take 200mg of mst every day for my back problems as well as lots of other meds for my neck, severe ibs depression and anxiety, also meds for the side effects of the meds i take.
i am in constant pain in my back no matter whether i sit stand or lie down, so i cannot walk at all without pain. i am in severe pain with the issues with my neck and cannot lift my arms without pain and cannot raise them above my shoulders. my partner has to help me dress and shower every day.
this is where i mentioned my report from my esa, as they said i would not be able to use a wheelchair because of the severe pain from my back and neck trying to propel myself using the wheels.

i have been told by specialists that i have seen that there is nothing else that can been done for me.
it is just so sad that my partner works her butt off looking after me every day for nothing, she gets no money for all her help and cannot claim carers allowance because at the moment i only get lower rate care along with full rate mobility on dla. i was told not to challenge it as i could have lost it all together. we will just have to hope they get their decision correct when and if i get transferred to pip.

You should have a look at the definitions for "reliably" and "on the majority of days" in the PIP Claim guide. Although you are not required to walk without pain, any pain that limits the distance that you can walk should be taken into account, also if you are able to walk but are in severe pain when doing so then you should be able to argue that you cannot walk to a reasonable standard.

thanks for your help so far gordon,
my partner and i are going through these pip forms, i am not sure how i go about filling in the sections about preparing food and cooking a simple meal, basically because of all my health problems and injuries i have not been allowed to go anywhere near preparing food or cooking meals for over 10 years as my partner has done everything for us it those regards. i just have no clue how i am supposed to answer. i certainly dont want to tell any lies in my answers. i know how i think i can manage in the kitchen but that is not actually doing them.
thankyou in advance for any reply.

i am sure this wont be the last you will hear from me about these horrible forms, you guys do a fantastic job on this site and deserve a great big pat on the back.

You won't score points for activities that you do not do so you must explain why you cannot prepare and cook a meal, you also need to consider how aids and appliances might help you to complete this activity.

Try and break the task down into smaller items, as a simple example; you need to remain at a worktop either standing or sitting, you need to be able to be able to prepare vegetables this requires you to be able to hold and use a knife as well as to your being able to hold the vegetables, you need to be able to cook the meal, this means using saucepans, you need to be able to serve the food.

So think about the problems that you have with completing each of these sub-activities.

Then think about how aids would enable to complete these, there's a list of aids and appliances in the PIP Claim guide that the DWP will consider when making a Decision.
