I need help, I am an appointee for my son, however I have recently discovered that he has been getting mail in his name, surely this is not right, as I have to sign and be responsible for his benefits, actions, etc

On the assumption that the DWP are aware that you are your son's appointee then you should contact them about this and if necessary and make a formal complaint.
