Length of Time for Acceptable Evidence? was created by Rob
Hi There,
I'm about to complete my DLA > PIP application and have been advised that PIP will only accept on average the last 6 months of medical evidence, with my claim - up to a maximum of 12 months... is this truly correct?
I find this confusing, as whilst it of course is most important for them to get the picture of the here and now / very recent times; additionally when you've lived with various illnesses for 20-25 yrs, these DO have such an important part to play in one's daily life and I believe in any claim, how you deal with long term illnesses and how they've deteriorated etc.
You cannot wipe X years of history from your life, due to illness but if they don't accept this, they are essentially saying that it's a relatively new illness (or set of) which is wholly untrue.
Therefore, I hope that you can shed some light on and help clarify the period of time, whereby PIP will accept evidence, so I can make sure that I include the correct date ranges.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

It's true that those assessing you will take more account of newer evidence than old, but that does not mean that they will ignore old evidence but you do need to explain why it is still relevant.
The simple fact is that the majority of claimants will not have access to up to date evidence, many have been parked by the NHS because they are stable or there is no further treatment available.
The only thing I would say is that you need to explain your limitations in as much detail as you can so make sure that you read the PIP Claim guide to understand what the criteria you are being assessed against is.

I gave certain advice over 10 years old for example you only register blind once.

Gordon,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated and I will do as you mention above, thanks.
I do have some latest stuff, as I'm undergoing further tests again for my heart condition, which I had several operations on for e.g. in late 90's to early millennia and I'm back on beta blockers and raft of tests upcoming; so I have lots of past evidence for this specifically and then the recent on-going tests / treatment, in addition to other illnesses I will be documenting.
It's difficult, as their mentality is really only for the current but for most, the past still affects the current and likely will their future.
Thanks in advance.
