Is there such a thing as contributions based ESA? was created by Kate
Hello all, Sunday is officially my last day of work for my employer after 12 years in the job. I have been medically retired and will receive my full local government employee pension as I met the criteria for tier 1 pension.
I know if the old days that I could have claimed Incaps on the basis that I've been paying NI for a significant period of time prior to claiming.
But with ESA being so different I'm totally confused.
Today I received a medical certificate from our HR department that said I was no longer in receipt of SSP and it said to this would be for 'claiming any benefits'
I am not fit to work and because my pension is ok to live on frugally, obviously I wouldn't claim JSA.
I have a husband whose wages preclude us from claiming anything means tested.
I receive (or will when I get the first payment in 3 weeks) PIP enhanced rate for both for an ongoing period if that helps at all?

Although ESA is a single benefit it there are two routes to eligibility one of which is based on your National Insurance Contributions,
See
www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance
for details of how to make a claim.
Our ESA Claim guides can help you complete the ESA50 form that will be issued once your claim is accepted.
