Good day.
I have in the last month been granted ESA Support Group and after reading some of the topics on here from other applicants have seen there is an ability to request your Case/Decision papers. Would it be acceptable to make such a request to DWP and would there be any negative impact in doing so?

It's perfectly OK for you to do this, you can write to or call the DWP office dealing with your claim, the assessment report will be an ESA85 if you had a face to face and an ESA85A if you did not, there may also be an LT54 which is sometimes completed by the Decision Maker.
If you want a broader ranger of information then you will have to issue a Subject Access Request;
