What exactly does "it varies" do for the score ?

I often pick "it varies" on my ESA50 forms, because I am being honest in that my health issue does indeed vary. But what actually happens to my scores this way ? As they are all pretty much paint by number scores and the DM tick on their computers what I have ticked, if they agree of course. So if I put "it varies" does this mean they will choose "yes" (as example) if my notes description gives enough info to warrant a "yes" ? Or does "it varies" mean no score ?

In order to ensure that you do score as you should, we suggest that you also give a detailed explanation. The guides explain how to deal with this.
