From contribution based award to income based. was created by johnlyn
Can you tell me if the DWP can change a person’s ESA from a contribution based award to an income related award. My son has had a letter informing him that he no longer gets a contribution based award but has been migrated to an income related award. The amount of money he gets will drop by over £60 a week. But not until December 2018. It looks like the amount is exactly the same as the extra money he gets for being “ severely disabled’

ESA(CB) will always be paid if the claimant is eligible, assuming the claim is unbroken then the only reason that it would be stopped would be if they had spent more than 365 days outside of the Support Group, even then it is entitlement to payment that is removed, not eligibility for ESA(CB).
Is it possible that your son is receiving Income Related ESA as a top-up to their ESA(CB)?
From your post I can't see an obvious reason why your son's ESA would be reduced unless something else has happened with his benefits.
