Ive qualified for pip but downgraded to standard was created by Simon
Ive just had my assesment downgraded from high rate to standard and lost my motability vehicle that i have only had 1 year !
I dont know whether to appeal or not or just leave it as they have awarded another 3 years and if i was to appeal i am afraid i may lose all my benefits.
And can anyone tell me will this affect my high rate ESA that i am currently on ? And will i have to face another gruelling assessment for that also ?
Thanks in advance for any advice out there

Only you can decide whether to challenge the Decision or not.
Do you know how you qualified for the Enhanced rate previously?
Has anything changed?
What form were you sent, another PIP2 or the AR1 Review form?
We haven't seen anybody's ESA impacted by a reduced PIP award so I would not worry about this.

Hi Gordon thanks for your reply.
I am not sure which of the gorms was sent...it was the review one if that makes sense ? As they did orginally award me until Oct 2018.
This is why i think it is unfair and only 1 point off the enhanced rate....so i think it is worth perusing a challenge ?
Your thoughts ?
I did also read up today on the government website that my entiltement for esa would also be reduced as i have only been awarded the lower rate pip.
Your comments are very welcomed at this anxious time.

To add...nothing has changed in my circumstances and they scored me 0/12 for being able to move 200m where as back in 2015 they scored me 8/12 for moving only 50m !
So they wish to take my car away even though I have only had it since April 2017...and as you are probably aware you cannot get a vehicle unless you have 2 years remaining on my pip award of which i did in April 2017.

If you had the Enhanced rates and you believe that nothing has changed in regard to your limitations then you should certainly consider challenging the Decision, but you will need to consider the reasons that you failed too score and how to address them.
The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip
You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.
Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;
"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"
than their opinions
"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.
When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
