Benifit entitlement. was created by bernadette Ann
Hi Gordan, Im writing in to find out if you can give some advice for a person whom has no fixed abode and is not claiming any benifits, and and been in this situation for over 25 year's, he has been staying with family and sofa surfing, but he health is detirated and needs to claim benifit, what would the process be, i can put him up for a bit but cannot be in the position where him staying at house for a short time would affect my benefit...and would he be able to claim and become a part of the system, he need glasses and dental treatment, just dont know how he can go forward, would it be a long process or would he claim be straight forward... would he need information and advice from any other organisations...before claiming and what benifit would he claim... thank you for your replay..........

I'm going to recommend that they go to their local CAB or welfare rights office for advice, do an internet search for "welfare advice!" with your postcode, town or county.

Potential options would be ESA, JSA or Universal Credit but all of these have requirements that they may not or may be unwilling to meet.

Someone staying with you temporarily as a guest should not impact on your own benefits.

Hi Gordan, thank you for your reply, do you think that he would potentially be entitled to claim benifit, and what information would the dwp need too process the claim, he has he N.I. number but has not worked or claim any kind of benifit for a number of years... and desparaetly needs some help, even if it is to get some eye and dental treatment. thank you.........

As I said, all of the benefits have requirements, for ESA they need to be unable to work due to illness or disability, for JSA and UC they will be required to seek work. Can they meet these requirements? For example for ESA they will need a Fit Note, issued by a GP.

Hi Gordan, im writing again because im not sure if my last message got lost, i know you said there are 3 different benifits and they all have different requirements of entitlement, but because he hasnt claimed or worked, basically a oboe for over 25 years, will they be firing questions at him, regarding previous years, or will they treat it a a fresh claim, because he suffers with he nerves and cant take any stress and has very high blood pressure, all he wants to do is submit a claim.. because he is unwell and has no source of income, plus no fixed obode. thank you...
