Can I claim PIP? was created by Jade
Hi,

My mum is currently awaiting an ESA appeal but has been told to claim UC in the meantime, we are just awaiting to see if she will be awarded the higher element for limited capability to work. We have also been told she will no longer go back on ESA anyway as she lives in a full service area.

A lady at Macmillan advised my mum she should be able to claim PIP.

Can she claim this while already claiming universal credit & awaiting to here if she will be entitled to the higher element and appealing an ESA decision or are there limitations as to how many and what benefits you can claim?

Thank you, Jade

PIP is a separate and independent benefit from ESA and Universal Credit so there is no reason why a claim cannot be started.

See our PIP Claim guide for the details of the process and the criteria that she will need to meet for an award.
