Claiming DLA for a child whilst working was created by Ecovegan
Hi, hope I'm posting this in the right place?
A relative has been told (I don't know who by?) that they can't claim DLA for their child as they're both working and are earning too much. The child's been ill for a few years now, has been off school and they've had to cut back their hours in order to look after him.
I thought that DLA was non means tested? I just wondered if anyone on the forum has had this experience?
Thanks

The information in wrong!
Providing the child is under 16 then a claim for DLA can be made. DLA and PIP are not included in the Benefit Cap and the benefits are not means tested.

Thanks Gordon,
I'll let them know. I'm not sure who told them that they weren't entitled to apply. But I think it's probably due to them both being on a high wage; maybe the person thought they were applying for themselves and not a child.
Many thanks

Even if they were applying for themselves, their income would not be a factor.
