Ah thank you Gordon i understand the years now.
You said - It's not quite as simple as being self-employed your profits must be in excess £6,205 to allow you to purchase the necessary Contributions.
The gov site says that i can voluntary pay as being Self-employed with profits under £6,205
Class 2 or Class 3 ...says class 2 goes towards ESA contribution based...is that not correct then?

Sorry, you are right. Below the threshold they are voluntary above it they are mandatory but you should have a look at the following which may effect you.

Blimey i got something right lol.
Thank you Gordon i came across that earlier when i was trying to find info out.
The gov site is still saying about class 2 and being able to pay them voluntary to count towards contribution based ESA and says class 3 doesn't count towards it..however according to the info in that link i cant pay class 2 and would now have to pay class 3 to still qualify..very confusing.
