Hi,

For personal reasons I am considering changing my name legally.

My question is how would this affect my claims for ESA and DLA?

I appreciate that I would need to let the various departments know of my change of name but would this change kick in the automatic transfer to UC?

I know it may seem like a strange question but I am loath to do anything that will affect my benefit entitlement and force me on to UC where I would loose various disability premiums and end up worse off financially.

Thanks in advance for any advice and assistance.

I don't think it will have any significant effect on your existing claims and it certainly won't mean that you have to claim Universal Credit.

If you do go ahead then do it by Deed Poll as it will save you a lot of problems later.
