I've been asked to come for an assessment after returning my PIP renewal form. It was a very detailed application and I have a letter from my GP and psychologist to say there was no improvement since the last assessment.
I have read the PIP assessment tools. It states I can bring letters from professionals with me, can I have a support worker with me and have a letter from them as well detailing their support If I felt this would be helpful?
I was a bit surprised to have to go for another assessment but I did read on this website even people who are very detailed in their descriptors in their renewal form sometimes still have to go for assessment.
Yes, you can have someone with you at the assessment, in fact, it may count against you if you do not, especially if you have problems with Going Out, Communicating or Mixing with Other People.
Whoever goes with you can provide their own letter of support if they are willing. it needs to be formatted as a letter, they need to explain their relationship to you and how often they see you, the difficulties they see you have with the PIP activities and lastly they need to attest to the validity of the information and sign it.
Take a copy to the assessment and ask the assessor to read it and include it in your file before they start the interview.
