Problems Trying to get an ESA Home Assessment was created by LucyPosy68
Hi,
Just wanted to post about something that's happened to me, regarding an ESA reassessment.
I sent in my completed printed form & evidence (medical reports etc)
I stated I would need a home assessment (which I had received for a recent PIP claim), giving my reasons (severe agoraphobia etc), past medical assessment reports that were all held at my home etc...
Also stating that my doctor does not supply personal letters (which I would have included to back up my request for a home assessment)
I wrote that any additional information that was needed, they could contact my doctor.
Today, I received an appointment letter, at a assessment centre, in 2 weeks time. I rang immediately, to ask what I had to do, to request a home assessment. I was told my doctor had to fax them the reasons why I needed a home assessment.
Spoke to my surgery - was told they do not send details like that by fax etc & the health assessment advisory service would have to contact them directly.
By this time, I could see what was going to happen. I rang the health assessment advisory service again & was told that they do not contact doctors etc, (they only contact them by sending them a 113 form - which apparently they did send one to my surgery - but received no response)
My surgery said they had not received this form. Because of this, I received an automatic appointment letter - they wanted a bit more info, but got no response. I made around 6 - 7 calls to both places.
I could have screamed today - being told different things by both sides. Was the form ever sent? I have no idea. Im now in the position of having to have a private letter written by my doctor, which will state the reasons why I need a home assessment. It will also cost me £30.
They have to send me a form to fill in, requesting this letter & send back. Will not be written until the money is paid - don't accept debit card, just cash. I assume that anyone at my surgery who receives an appointment at an assessment centre, will have to jump through the same hoops to get help with securing a home assessment. I feel sorry for really vulnerable people, who may have no family or friends to support them.
I have heard of private letters & the different amounts charged for them. I thought these usually were sent with the actual form. Maybe I'm just very naive - I just didn't expect to have such difficulty with trying to get my surgery to send details (with my permission) of my difficulties, to a company working for the dwp.
It's us, the claimants, who are caught in the middle of this bureaucracy. I feel worse now this has happened, because it's still not settled. I will have to extend or change the date of my upcoming appointment, to allow for this letter to be completed. I can only change the appointment date once, so am worrying about that too.
No wonder so many of us here are made ill (on top of what is wrong with us anyway) with all this stress... Is it all done on purpose?
I'm so sorry to have gone on. The day started ok... I then received the appointment letter & all hell breaks loose
