Are ESA assessments now running late?

My son has been on ESA since January 2013. At last asessment - September 2016 he was given 18 months. Now after almost 2 years he has not been called for new assessment. Does anyone know if there a back log? Or are there some rules - like you are just chucked off after a certain time period? Are you allowed to be on ESA for more than 5 years? Has there been any new legislation? Thank you for any information.

ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment, so his current award remains in payment until a new Decision is made.

It is possible that he has been assessed without his being involved or that his reassessment has been deferred, there is no official policy on the latter. The only way that you will know is to contact the DWP office dealing with his claim and ask when he is scheduled to be reassessed.
