Pip medical assessment x 2! Help please. was created by wedgesurf
Hello,
I wonder if anyone would know if it is acceptable to have a f2f assessment, then receive a home visit ontop?

I attended my F2F last Thurs morning at 8am. I was very unwell and had developed a migraine on top that morning, was feeling sick, in extreme pain and distressed by the whole experience. I have several medical conditions but the main one is an incurable progressive connective tissue disease which is multi system and extremely rare. I went to the f2f with my husband and when the HP saw me she said how ill I looked and could see I was really unwell. She was suprised to see me there. She said how she had read through all my medical evidence the day before and was shocked I had been called in & I should have at least had a home visit. She said that I was too unwell for the f2f and I should go home and back to bed. She would compile a report to the DWP advising they make a paper based desicion awarding pip and that they don’t request me to be seen again. She had read about the rarity of my condition and knew it was incurable and progressive and my medical evidence came from a Professor in Rheumatology, a consultant Rheumatologist and a specialist Nurse. She said I had sent in more than enough medical evidence (38 pieces). I was in receipt of DLA and she really couldn’t understand why they still wanted to see me. She said that the dwp may request a home visit but she would definitely recommend they just process the claim. After 15 mins I left the assessment centre and spent the next 3 days in bed with a migraine and occipital/trigeminal neuralgia.
Today Tues 9th Oct I have received a letter from the DWP saying that IAS will be coming to my home to do another pip assessment. I am extremely upset by this because the HP at my f2f ended my assessment on medical grounds and led me to believe that dwp would make their decision after seeing her report. This means that I am having to undergo two pip assessments and surely that is not right?
I called dwp today and explained the situation. I was told that IAS(atos) make the decision not dwp! That is not what it says in the booklet that IAS sent me with my f2f appointment letter. It states that the dwp will look at the HP’s report and then dwp make final decision. I could not get this through to the case worker and she told me that I should just let another HP come to my home and do another assessment as the first one was not completed. Can they do this??
This has sent me into a frenzy and making me feel even worse. I wouldn’t have minded if they had done this in the first place but I was made to go to them and now being made to go through another assessment at home. Is there anything I can do please?

I look forward to any replies/advise/other situations like this and wish everyone to be as well as they can be.

Many thanks.
Michelle.

My best guess is that the first assessor exceeded her authority in saying that they would do a Paper Based Review and that is why the home assessment has now been booked. You can make a complaint about what has happened but you will have to be available for the new appointment, your claim cannot progress until the DWP receive a report from IAS.

Hi Gordon,

Thank you for your reply and advice. I feel like I have been penalised by dwp and IAS for being unwell and them making me go through the assessment process twice. What happens if I'm as unwell with a migraine again when they come to my house? I can have up to 20 migraines a month. Will they re schedule again?

Kind regards,

Michelle.

I don't know, it will depend on how the cancellation of the first appointment was recorded on their system but I would assume that you need to be available and to particpate.

You can check the situation by contacting IAS.
