PIP Mobility Activities Section was created by ac82
Hi, I am new to this and am hoping for some guidance or better understanding of the pip mobility activities section.
I was born with a severe disability to my upper limbs. My left arm is very short and only has two fingers and my right arm is of normal length, but turned at a right angle from my wrist position, with only four fingers.
I was previously on DLA middle rate care compound indefinitely award and hadn’t had to fill in any forms for over 20 years. In the 2015 I had an operation on my arm and was struggling to do some of the things I could do previously. I therefore called up and was advised that I would have to look at claiming PIP. I completed the PIP claim form and was awarded the Enhanced rate care compound for until 2025.
In the last few days I have received a letter in relation to Changes in PIP law and advising they have looked at my claim again. Nothing has changed in terms of my reward, but it has got me thinking should I be entitled to any points on the PIP mobility activities section.
In the review letter and my initial PIP award letter I scored zero in this section. The first question in this section in relation to planning and following a route of a journey. With this I can plane route/journey, but due to my disability if I wanted to do my monthly shopping I have to plan to have somebody with me as I wouldn’t be able to carry the bags or unload the trolley properly.
The second question about being able to stand and then move 200 meters either aided or unaided. I can walk, but can do and have have issues with my balance due to differences in my arms and this can be especially tricky if I’m in a crowded place, like standing on a train for example as I can’t hold on and my balance is not very good.
I don’t know if I would be entitled to anything in the PIP mobility activities section based on what I’ve just said and was hoping for a little advice. I don’t believe either that I did fill in this section when I initially completed the PIP claim.
Thank you

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
I'm afraid you cannot score points for the Going Out activity if the underlying problem is a physical one, the only conditions considered are a sensory one; for example being blind, a cognitive one such as a learning disability or a mental health one that would lead to overwhelming psychological distress.
The Moving Around activity is only concerned with the distance that you can reliably walk on the majority of days, you would need to show that your balance problems have a material effect on how far you can walk.
