Lost mandatory reconsideration was created by Jen
Hi. I’m very upset here! I was getting low pip no mobility and I decided I would do a mandatory reconsideration as I felt they had overlooked things. I just called today as I hadn’t received anything from then and they said a letter was posted Oct 24th but I haven’t got it yet! The girl told me they have now taken everything of me and I’m so worried and with Christmas coming up! Is this normal? I submitted new details of how I was now on the maximum medication for adhd and another recent thing I’ve been diganosed with. I can’t see how they have now given me nothing! They said a case worker will contact me, can they help or do I have to go through a lengthy appeal? I’m so scared and any advice would be welcome. Thanks eneryone

You have two options going forward;

- you can make a new claim for PIP, there is no waiting time, or
- you can appeal the Decision.

Our PIP Appeal guide has links to the SSCS1 form that you will need to complete and the Submissions guide has a complete example that you can use to help you fill it in, you do not need to provide detailed reasons at this stage for your request.

Once your appeal is accepted the DWP will prepare their submission to the hearing and send you a copy, whilst you should wait until you receive this to finish and submit your own, you should start to prepare your own case, an increased award will only be made by your showing that you score the extra points for one, so I would start by going back through your PIP2, the assessment report and the PIP Claim guide to see how you might show this is the case.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Thank you!

Is it normal to loose original award? I don’t understand why I would have? I’m in Northern Ireland btw.

Also a caseworker is calling me what should I say? Can they overturn the mandatory reconsideration giving me less points as before I was untitled to standard rate..

I feel so silly now for doing an mr now I’m not getting anything.

Thanks again

It is unusual to lose an award as the result of an MR but it is always a risk.

The Claim Manager can revise the Decision but if they don't then you need to decide which option to pursue.
