Starting Dialysis soon help required was created by billybeaver
Hi Gordon and all members I’m going to start Dialysis very soon and someone told me a while back that you have to inform the DWP. Is that right ? Sorry if this has been asked somewhere else on here but I cannot find anything on it. I was wondering why I would need to inform them of me starting Dialysis And is their a reason why ? So if I have to inform the DWP would this be a change of circumstances because I am already in the esa support group and also enhanced pip for both groups so I can’t get any more money. Once I start after Christmas it will be for life as I cannot have a kidney transplant due to heart failure. I just don’t want to start Dialysis and find out I should have informed them even though I’m not sure why they would need to know.
I’d be grateful for any help many thanks

I can't tell you that you do not need to inform the DWP but they are usually not worried if a claimant does not tell them about a deterioration in their conditions, which I assume that this is, especially if you are already receiving the highest rates of the benefits that you receive.
If you do tell them then it is almost certainly going to result is a reassessment of both you ESA and PIP.

Thank you Gordon for your very helpful advice as usual . It’s bad that I’d have to have pip and esa reassessed just for getting worse. I know I’m only going to ever get worse so it’s terrible really the way they treat us. As if we haven’t got enought to deal with already. I can only hope that when I tell them I don’t have to have any f2f as iv never had one yet but theirs always a first. But thank you any way, I hope you don’t mind me asking if anyone else on here is on dialysis or waiting to start dialysis like me what happened to them when they informed the Dwp. As you said Gordon I’m deteriorating not getting better . I’m also wheelchair bound plus other life threatening illnesses I’m battling with . But it would be great to hear from anyone else that are also going through it.many 5hsnks

I can't help you decide either, but I can tell you in dealing with my late husbands PIP award that I saw no reason to inform them of his subsequent dialysis treatment. The high rate awards had already been given based on how stage 5 CKD as well as other conditions affected him. Dialysis did not change his stage 5 diagnosis in any way or lessen the amount of care he needed, so there was noting to be gained or lost by informing them.
Hope your dialysis makes you a little bit more comfortable.

Thank you Cat for your kind response and I’m really sorry about your late husband. I also have stage 5 ckd that’s why I’m going to the rental unit this Friday for the first time. I understand now that theirs nothing gained by informing them as its not going to change the amount of care I need. I will need more care as I’m also battling heart failure. So I can’t get a higher award. It was very kind of you to reply as it’s nice to have some one else’s Input who has knowledge of it.
We’re all battling on here with illness and disabilities and I wish you the very best. Also thank you Gordon for your reply as well as your always here for all of us.
