Hi Gordon,
Its Kirsty ... I am still waiting to see if I can get a Home Assessment for PIP.... or Paper based. The request has been made and its a waiting game. I am getting increasingly nervous. I gather I cannot tape an interview unless I do it with special equipment. Like I would not be able to use my own phone. Or tablet ?
Can you tell me what device I need and will it stop them lying.... I have read so many horror stories that it could be a way of safeguarding against lies ?
Many thanks
K

You need permission in advance from the Assessment Provider to make the recording.

It needs to be made to two tapes of CDs simultaneously.

You cannot use a digital recorder such as a mobile phone.

A member has reported problems if the media is not new, so make sure that the tapes or CDs are still shrink wrapped and opened in the presence of the assessor.

You need to give one of the recordings to the assessor.

Most members have used two relatively cheap cassette recorders, check that they record without a problem, some have used external microphones.

I'm afraid. recording your assessment is unlikely to change the behaviour of the assessor, good assessors will provide a reasonably accurate report and will recommend a suitable award, bad assessors will do what they always do!

Hi Kirsty,

In a word, 'no' it doesn't stop assessors lying, not on my case anyway.

My assessors report was full of contradictions, misreporting and downright lies.

What the recording will do, however, is give you 'licence', and to some extent a bit more authority, to argue your case with back up quotes from the assessment knowing that your words are the truth and make no mistake about it!

I said things like 'as can clearly be heard on the recording' and 'please hear the recording for concrete proof of this being said'.

The thing is the recording will almost certainly never be listened to, no-one seems to know what happens to their copy of the tapes!

I won my MR and am almost certain that this swung things in my favour.

If I was you I would definitely record it.

2 x cassette recorder players from Argos - around 50 quid and a pack of C90 tapes from ebay or amazon - around a tenner.

Best of luck.
