I am getting to the point where I am coming to the conclusion that a return to work isn’t likely in the near future. To reduce some of the stress and pressure (which also has an impact on my illness), I am considering reluctantly handing in my notice. As much as I love my job and I’d really like to get back to it I don’t know when or if that is possible. The specialist I have seen have all agreed that getting back to work is a long-term goal.
So my question is, if I were to hand in my notice on medical grounds, what does this change for me? Am I likely to be considered ‘wilfully unemployed’, and does that have any consequences that I might not have thought of? Is there likely to be anything positive out of it? Also, is there anything I need to do or consider before I did hand in my notice?
If you can help in any way, or even point me in a direction of who might be able to help, I’d be really grateful.
