going out/cooking was created by Bunny1
hi there 2 questions- i completed my pip form -
1- due to my meantal health ptsd anxiety agoraphobia and physical chronic exhaustion i am only able to go out 1 or 2 days a week the most- often just 1 day and often have to cancel going out as planned as i cant cope on the day - i live on my own and have to go out to shop- etc-i dont have anyone to shop for me - plus i only shop locally but it does me good to go out once a week just to go to shops get out of the flat and be with other humans. but it is always difficult when im out as i suffer hypervigilance and get very anxious and cant wat to get home. am i right in thinking under the new law as i cannot go out on a regular basis de to my mental health and exhuastion i should score points for not being able to go out ? or am i wrong? I think i read dwp were taken to court over this issue.
2- cooking- due to same issues and chronic exhaustion i live on microwavable dinners - i am unable to prepare a meal from fresh ingrediants as i used to before i got so sick. - i just use microwave for microwave dinners- the only time i use cooker is to cook a big pan of plain wholemeal pasta to fill me up as microwavable dinners are so small or boil in the bag rice to go with microwave dinner . - and occasionallly a boiled or poached egg. i never ever use the oven- and can nver cook a proper meal eg chops and fresh vedge as i used to. can i still score points for not being able to cook a fresh meal??
this is all sooo stressful.
many thanks for any advice.

I'm taking your post as written, it may be that you have done a poor job of explaining your limitations.

1. Whilst the PIP legislation requires those assessing you to consider what you are able to do on the majority of days, I think that you may struggle to score for being unable to undertake a journey.

You say that you can only go out 1 or 2 days a week, whilst technically this meets the criteria, the frequency is not supportive of you having a problem that restricts your going out, assessors will be expecting someone with problems in this area to be limited to 1 or 2 journeys a month and even less.

Secondly, to score you will need to suffer "overwhelming psychological distress", you mention that you get anxious but this will not be enough for you to score.

2. You will need to explain your problems in significantly more detail, your use of the hob to boil the rice argues against you having problems severe enough to prevent you cooking a meal.

You can still score for being unable to prepare the food but will need to explain why you cannot do this as it is not obvious from your post.

It is essential that those assessing you do not believe that it is easier for you to cook prepared meals rather than essential.
