Had a face to face today for PIP assessment. I currently get standard rate care and enhanced rate mobility...Anyhow, I was not asked any questions as such, but was told how my heart condition affected me, the assessor said she was a cardiac nurse...She also told me she would not concentrate on the mental health side of the assessment because they have changed the rules and all claimants getting PIP for mental health have to be seen every 12 months because their condition can and often does get better. I have had mental health issues all my life (now 63yrs old) I have worked all my life until struck down with heart ill health. She told me I'd score more points on my physical health than mental health and that she would be recommending I am not seen again because I am currently getting conservative care meaning there are no more surgical or medical interventions that can be offered to me. Never heard of this before but the interesting thing was what she said about assessing mental health claimants every 12 months. if this is true it means the government does not regard mental health has a disabling condition.

No, it's not and she should not have said any of the other things as well.

You should be able to request a copy of the assessment report next week by contacting the DWP office dealing with your claim.

Wish they had an assessor with some knowledge of a life long traumatic brain injury, then they would accept after thirty years he will not get better and score the necessary points

Isn't that against the rules?

Wish they had assessors with decent knowledge of mental health problems too! I had a physio assess me who couldn't grasp that having had anorexia and other mental health problems for 30 years I was unlikely to recover in the near future !

Sorry not got back sooner but had a few issues health wise...Update on my assessment. The assessor was true to her word in this case, I was moved from Standard rate care to Enhanced and stayed at Enhanced mobility. Also the letter says I will not be seen until after 27th March 2029. Had a phone call to let me know before the letter arrived and my award was back dated 6 months. On this occasion it worked out well but I know it could have gone the other way. I doubt they could have done anything else due to my condition they'd know they'd have lost on appeal and they also know with my evidence I won't be around to collect PIP for the next 10 years. Thanks for all the help Gordon over that last 4/5 years and I will maintain my subscription, this site needs to remain viable!
