Hello everyone,

My name is Liam and I intend to move from York to Manchester this year. I've been working on this move for over year and in that I've had to talk to various people at City of York Council about the Move because I'm Disabled and in receipt of Benefits and part of the Direct Payments scheme. My now retired Social Care Manger could give me so information and said that it is difficult to predict how these transfers from one Local Authority to another will go. Are there any Disabled people on here who have done this recent and what have your experiences been like? Also anyone who any experiences with moving onto to Universal Credit could you also please share those?

If people don't know the answer to these questions or can't give any information could you please point me in the direction of a website that may have these answers.

Thank you, much appreciated.

Hi Liam

Most people claiming a means tested benefits and move to a new local authority areas will have to claim Universal Credit (UC) although some people will be exempt from claiming UC, for instan,t if you are moving into exempt supported accomodation or if you receive a severe disability premium.
You may want to contact the local authority to where you are moving to for information prior to moving or contact your local welfare rights unit or Citizens Advice.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for that info I had already posted on this forum and got advice from Gordon re Benefits and then I'd also spoken to CAB. Maybe I wasn't clear enough with this post, I'm just looking for general info about people's experiences moving between LA's e.g. has gone smoothly if not what problems have been encountered.

Thanks again.

Liam
