Small Pension was created by tazman
I have a VERY small pension from my years in local government, less than £400 per year. If I ask for it before I qualify for my state pension will it be deducted from my ESA? I'm in SG but struggling to manage and any extra would be welcome. I've got another 4 years before I qualify (still angry WASPI woman) and the way my health is going I might not make it!

Hi Tazman
Yes it would be deducted from your ESA, you may want to have a benefits check to make sure you are receiving all your entitlements depending on your circumstances such as PIP.

Sorry to have to correct Gary in part.
If you are receiving Income Related ESA in part or in whole then the pension will be deducted from ESA(IR).
If you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA and you have not other pension income that takes you over the £85/week disregard then there will be no deductions from your ESA(CB).

Thank you for both your replies. I do get IR ESA so it seems pointless to apply for early pension. I would probably qualify for PIP, but I just couldn't cope with the application process. I've only just recovered from 3 months of stress preparing, filling in form and having to attend a f2f for renewal of ESA. I was lucky and had a very sympathetic assessor and was kept in SG.
The stress of the whole thing has made my mental health issues worse. On top of all that I have just been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and begin treatment tomorrow. I don't have the mental strength to put myself through the strain of another round of weeks of anxiety, nightmares and lack of sleep.
I've been told by my specialist that inflammation in my body couldn't get much higher and he suspects it's been raging around in me for a long time. I need to rest and avoid stress.
They certainly know how to make people avoid applying for money they are entitled to!

You would only get deductions as outlined in previous responses if you had it paid as a monthly amount.
If you are 55 or over, or suffer ill health you could if its a certain type of pension receive a lump sum payment, so long as any payment or savings are under 6k you won't get deductions from benefits.

Good luck
