Hi
I think I need some moral support. I am having a home visit next week and I'm in such distress about it. I'm having to reapply for PIP as I'd only been granted a temporary award - just the standard daily living component. I had to go through 16 months and 2 tribunals to get this (DWP failed to turn up to the first one) and then DWP denied all knowledge and took a further 2 months to pay out. By this time I was thoroughly broken and £000s in debt. I started making some recovery a few months ago and now they've pulled the rug from under my feet yet again. From a 3 year award I've only had half that time to get over what I went through to get it. I have COPD, OSFED (Other Specified Eating and Feeding Disorder) and DSPD (DIsplaced Sleep Phase Disorder) among other mental health issues including social anxiety, agoraphopia, depression etc. The stress of all this has sent my weight/appetite plummeting, undoing all the work I'd put in to gain it, I'm back on Zopiclone and Propranalol and just in permament fight or flight mode.
I had claimed for the mobility component too but was awarded 0 points. I would have appealed further but had no fight left.
I did this all alone - with the help and aid of the resources here. This seemed to stack against me - in their 'informal observations' it was noted I could do my 7 times table and spell the word 'world' - neither of these questions were asked of me - indeed the HP had entirely invented a medical examination to which I'd not been asked for consent. It was all a pack of lies.
I did make an official complaint but it was met with a staggering load of self-justifying piffle. I ended up having a complete breakdown with no energy to take them on.
It is SO hard to get anyone, even some real health professionals to understand the effects of OSFED AND DSPD particularly - advice like "just eat more cream and butter" to even less helpful "just get up earlier".
My COPD has significantly worsened since my first assessment.
Please will someone tell me what will happen at this home assessment from their own experience?
Many thanks

Hi A King
At the home visit, your assessor will ask you a number of questions. You can find examples in the guide linked below.

Guide to PiP claims and reviews

This is not a definitive list because it depends on the answers and any additional evidence you submitted, your health conditions and any issues the assessor wants to clarify with you. Claimants have had good and bad experiences of home visits depending on the assessor. (I had a good one).

The guide will tell you the sort of observations the assessor is also making throughout the assessment. They will be completing an online form as they speak so they will not make eye contact all the time.

If you need extra support you can have someone with you. And you can record the assessment if you want (though you need to read the strict guidelines in the guide for doing this if you choose this option).

It is not your medical condition they are focussed on, but your ability to do the tasks as laid out on the PIP form.
