Face to face assessment

My son had an accident several years ago. This left him with brain injuries (temporal lobe) Epilepsy, calcified hips therefore mobility problems. He has been on FLA but now has to transfer to PIP. It is very complicated as he has little or no insight into his condition. Refuses to accept that, in spite of his medication He still has seizures. In all fairness he often has memory loss so cannot remember things
He maintains he "does everything myself" Not true I do an awful lot but have to try to be discreet as he can get agitated and distressed very quickly. This can then cause more seizures etc., He had been very stressed over the PIP application he has started "hearing things" Which I honestly feel Iis down to stress. Headway have been very helpful and although he won't engage with them (or anyone) They did a lengthy report stating that they did not feel s face to face assessment would add anything because of hid lack of insight, memory problems etc., His doctor also wrote a letter saying "his confusional (his word) state should be considered when assessing"

All this and other documents were sent to DWP. Within 5 days, apparently, all this was examined, forwarded to CAPITA and s letter received informing my son that a face to face assessment has been arranged in 5 days time. Journey instructions were sent and they were so complicated that neither myself or my husband could understand them!! and we are completely compos mentis!! Of course we will take him if he HAS to attend but can we insist on s paper assessment?

Thank you BIS. It is so worrying, my husband and I are in our 70's and are desperately trying to keep calm not to upset my son even further. Problem is he will answer all questions with "yes i can do that, I'm fine". He does this with his epilepsy specialist - denies he still has seizures. He is a doctor's dream as he is "fine". I have to write to the specialist before his appointment telling him of hid seizures, wandering, complex partial, drop down etc., Even when people have called an ambulance he sends them away saying "everyone is lying". Gets do sgitated and quite verbally aggressive if challenged or withdraws and wont speak or respond to anyone. Head injuries are so complex and tbh I cannot see an assessor for PIP being able to quantify his condition. It has taken his GP a long time to gain some insight!! He has admitted he is not qualified in Head injuries and there's no such thing as a text book case

I had a similar situation, son with TBI, mental and physical issues, offered a ridiculous appointment at an assessment centre. GP faxed a letter directly to them. We eventually got a home assessment from a proper registered doctor.
I wrote a covering letter explaining fully his situation including the fact he may not participate, and lacks insight etc, which I handed to Doctor at door, and requested it be kept on file, and it was read immediately. The assessment was very short.
You could ask DWP to become your son's appointee. This helps when dealing with appointments and forms etc.

You need to contact PIP helpline number and ask them to confirm what evidence scanned is actually available on screen as assessment service probably hasn't read it . DWP flagged it for assessors. Especially if it already states PB required, Also back it up with an email to MP, she called the assessors to ensure it had been read. PB assessment was approved.
