Lack of Brain Injury & Epilepsy Understanding

Had my PIP tribunal today as result of brain injury and epilepsy. The panel especially Dr had no experiences or understanding about the above which made me feel very thick stupid and embarrassed. The Dr looked at me in disgust a couple of times and disinterested. I had a very experienced CAB representative who said it was hostile questioning with lack of understanding, empathy and care, to a degree he was going to feedback to his boss and onto district judge. Forgot important parts of my PIP such as my daily fatigue and forgetfulness as well as depression as I was in a real emotional kerfuffle throughout the time.
There was quite a stack of evidence I’d sent in over a period of time so finding outcome via post. Nightmare experience.

Can there be/Is there any specific panels for brain injuries and daily seizures?
If not can we start something to make this happen?

Thanks x

Hi Debra

I am sorry that you had such a poor experience and you are still waiting to hear about your award.

I'm afraid there are no specialist panels, One of the panel members is always a doctor, but as you found that does not guarantee they have the specialist knowledge of the claimant's medical condition. Your only choice is to lobby your MP to take this up.

Hi Debra. I totally understand where you are coming from. Going through the process with my adult son and it is a NIGHTMARE!! There is no understanding of head injuries AT ALL!!!! Last year the Managing Director of CAPITA assured Headway they would be taking concern s on board and "feeding problems in to the assessors" blah de blah - doesn't happen!!!!

I hope you get a positive result

My husband has had 3 brain operations and is awaiting a 4th. Our wonderful DWP still require him to undergo a f2f.

Hi CAW

Terrible isn't it? I've contacted my MP to see if that might help....
2 weeks tomorrow since my tribunal and I've still not heard the outcome. My anxiety and paranoia is now on overdrive.

Thank goodness your son has a supportive parent by his side.
