My 22 year old daughter has Mental Health problems, and is currently receiving PIP enhanced daily living and Univ Credit with limited capability for work. She is "considering" going to university after discussing this with her CAMHS care coordinator. She would have to apply for student finance loan - what would happen with her benefits? Would they automatically stop or would there be another assessment?
She is so young and trying to do something positive, but is worried about how this would affect her benefit support.
The first thing that she/you need to ask yourselves is whether doing such a course would be in conflict with the reasons that she has received awards of PIP and UC? You also need to consider whether this is the result in an improvement of her conditions as this would require her to notify the DWP.
Student loans are usually treated as income, so her UC might be reduced during term time.
