PIP Awarded - Mandatory Reconsideration?

Hi Gordon,
My wife was previously receiving DLA, Mobility Rate which she has done for many years - Claim to be ended by DWP invited to claim PIP.
The face to face assessment was 50 minutes late and involved me having to dash out during assessment to add extra parking fee.
The actual assessment seemed quite positive.
The DWP awarded 8 points for daily living
10 points for moving around (Walking 20 to 50 metres)
The HCP said a medical examination was not necessary.
The DWP awarded no points for planning and following a journey, curiously the HCP asked my wife - What would you do if your husband left you now, how would you get home? My wife replied “ I don’t know what I would do, I panic!
The HCP replied “Right”
My wife suffers with general anxiety/depression she does not use public transport unaccompanied.
In regards to planning & following a journey The DWP assessor stated No specialist medical input or panic attack during assessment.
We suspect that the DWP may not have taken somethings on board.
Our dilemma is whether or not to go onto Mandatory Reconsideration and risk losing what has been awarded,or take the existing award?

Only you and your partner can make the decision on whether to challenge the award or not.

The Going Out activity looks at three things.

Planning a route - this is primarily a cognitive or sensory (e.g. blindness) activity. You are being asked about the problems you would have with working out how to get from one place to another, you do not need to be able to follow the route that you are planning.

Undertaking a Journey - this is to do with mental health issues such as agoraphobia and social anxiety and is concerned with you leaving the house to go somewhere, they will be interested in the things that stop you doing this. You need to show that you would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" to meet the criteria.

Following a route - This activity about the problems you would have navigating a route. So are there problems; cognitive, sensory or mental health issues that would prevent you from doing this? This is different from undertaking a journey, in fact, if you cannot undertake a journey then you will not score points for following one and vice versa.

For mental health issues, the reason why the claimant cannot continue to follow the route must be "overwhelming psychological distress". The use of Public Transport is not defined in the Descriptors it is only in the DWP guidance and we regularly see DMs refuse to award points on this basis.
