PIP "Ongoing" award and ESA assessment was created by digitalrace
Hello
Recently received re assessment notice for ESA. A week later I received a letter informing me that my PIP (without reassessment) had been reviewed and I have been given an "Ongoing" award until 2029.Really surprised and pleased! However I have some questions:
1.Did I receive Ongoing award because I am now 62years old or that my conditions are not going to improve or was it a combination of both of these factors?
2.Should I include Ongoing PIP award letter with my ESA reassessment?
3. Will DWP take into account Ongoing PIP award when deciding ESA award?
Kind regards

Hi Committed
1. Impossible to be certain, but you have yet to reach the pension age so it is more likely to be because of your condition.
2 and 3 - You can include your PIP award for ESA, but they are not obliged to take any notice as the two benefits are looking at different things. Whether you include it or not, just make sure that you fill out the ESA form fully.

Hi BIS,
It's got me thinking this 'ongoing' palava. I read that every award is being looked at in the order of awards that are about to run out and backwards from there so every one gets looked at.
I am 63 and my award ends in June 2021. The GP letter that I think paid a big part in me winning my MR does state quite clearly that my condition is a lifelong one, so I am sort of half-hoping I might be in with a chance.
My last assessment was in June last year so that was quite a bit before the government statement last August.
I receive lower daily living and higher mobility PIP. I know that they are concentrating on enhanced/enhanced awards but I have read (including one post I've read on here), that it isn't set in stone and that others have been awarded ongoing awards with the same status as myself.
I know you won't be able to advise me so to speak, but would a phone call to the PIP helpline shed some light or it it best to wait and see?
Phrank.

Whilst the DWP has looked at some awards and revised them to On-Going I haven't seen anything to suggest that they are looking at all claims for those approaching State Retirement AGe, why would they when they can just wait for the awards to come up for reassessment?
