UC TRANSFER - WAIT TIME was created by rick oliver
DWP wait time for transfer over to UC is supposed to be 5 weeks from the end date of the old benefit you are transferring from - at least this is my understanding; so say the wait is 13 weeks (the average for my area but can be up to 33 weeks in rare circumstances) and you get paid does this mean that you will be paid 13 weeks money? or do they just pay you 4 weeks money and stick two fingers up as far as the rest (the other 9 weeks) is concerned? Could anybody enlighten me please? thanks:blink:

Hi Rick
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claim...q/forums-faq#Forum10
There are a number of issues in your post and I believe you are mixing up ESA and UC such as date of claim, 5 week assessment period which is UC and 13 weeks which relates to ESA assessment.
We do have some information in our 'Members Only Guides' ESA & UC Claims
For specific information about UC, you may want to seek help from your local welfare rights agency, I have found the following web sites that maybe able to offer you the information you are looking for:
www.gov.uk/universal-credit
www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/

One has to wait "so many weeks" before receiving payment off the DWP - A 4 week wait is mandatory before supposedly getting your money in the 5th week and then every month thereafter - my concern is the wait time for UC where i live is at least 13 weeks before getting first payment (13 weeks, 14 weeks 15 weeks etc depends on DWP delays- you are supposed to be paid in the 5th week but this can and does take a lot longer for some individual cases) sometimes longer and my question was essentially "do you only get a months money when you receive first payment or do you get the weekly equivalent for the total amount of time (weeks or months) you have had to wait?" - i make my claim and get paid 3 months later - do i get 3 months money ? - hope this helps.

If you have to wait more than five weeks for your payments then you should involve your MP.
You can get a loan while you are waiting for you UC to go into payment but it is obviously repayable.
Some elements of UC are not payable immediately but the main UC payment should be payable from the date of your claim minus any waiting days that are applicable, so if it was not paid until week 13 then in principle you would be owed 13 weeks of money.
