Hi its a while since I've posted but could do with some advise please.

My sister, who has an 18 yr old disabled daughter on enhanced PIP for both mobility and personal care as she has mental capacity of a 5yr old due to being extremely premature at birth, has had her tax credits and income support benefits stopped 7 wks ago due to her daughter not being in education anymore as shes 18, the Jobcentre wants her daughter to attend the JC(not clue what for) to be interviewed with no input whatsoever from her mother, my question is that is this normal procedure? and is it to see if she needs to fill in a UC50 form? or to see if she is exempt?

thank you so much

The first thing your sister needs to consider is whether she should be her daughter's appointee, as she has turned 18 she is being treated as an adult by the DWP and her mother no longer has authority to act on her behalf.

Is it possible that the daughter has agreed to a Universal Credit claim being started? This would explain the interview at their local JC+ office.

She can be assessed for Limited Capability for Work under UC but they will need to present a Fit Note to start the process. It is possible that a Decision can be made without her having to attend a face to face with Maximus but it will depend on the information provided
