Vulnerability was created by magdelena
While I appreciate no one can give me a definitive answer here, I’m wondering if my husband would come under the DWP’s vulnerability classification. His Parkinson’s has rendered him incredibly vulnerable and I do everything for him, most especially anything bureaucratic (lucky me eh).
I understand that it’s a DWP decision and I shall speak to them later but wanted the considered opinion of the good people here.
Is complex needs intended to embrace mental health issues and learning difficulties? And/or does it’s range cover neurological and physical limitations and challenges?
Thanks all, and thanks to BIS for answering my initial question.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Magdelena
You need to speak to them Yes, some of the people with neurological conditions are considered vulnerable under the DWP definition, but it's not automatic which is why you need to talk to them to check whether they are aware of the complexity of your husband's conditions. It's up to the DWP.

Thank you BIS. Do you know which department I need to speak to? Better still do you have contact details?

Hi Magdelena
You need to contact the number of the DWP office on your last paperwork. It's not a particular department. You just need to ask if your husband is marked down as a vulnerable person. If he isn't you ask what you can do to have that flagged as you believe he should be.

BIS, I spoke at length with a lovely lass at the DWP who has passed my request onto the team who deal with vulnerability. I’m very hopeful that my husband will meet the requirements. Thank you so much for your help sweetheart.

Hello I think I may be in the vulnerable classification with the DLA to PIP staff as they gave me extra time to fill in the form they sent me recently without having to call them, It was a huge relief.
However I was soon sent a letter from the ESA section saying they wanted to give a date for my much delayed (by over 2 years!) home medical for ESA renewal. I sent in letters last week from my Neurologists and am praying they will pass me on paper without the dreaded face to face. Do you know whether the different benefits share information with each other re vulnerability or should I ask a friend to enquire for me? Thanks.
