Switching? was created by Sdoxuk
If I switch from ESA (SG) to Income support (in receipt of severe disability payment, PIP (enhanced care, standard mobility) will I be called in for work related activity? I’m due to have a baby and will be a lone parent.

I am under the care of the perinatal mental health team and on medication. I’m finding the repeated form filling for ESA50 and yearly f2f assessments incredibly stressful. I was thinking about switching to IS but worried that I will be forced into work interviews even though my mental health issues have been ongoing and severe. Can someone please advise me on the assessments associated with IS with interviews being arranged for work?

Thank you

Hi SD

I am not sure you will be able to switch from ESA to IS. You will be better of financially staying as you are, as you are in receipt of SDP you will not yet have to claim UC. You are also in the support group therefore you do not have to take part in any work-related activity.

Income Support when your child reaches the age of 3 you may need to take part in mandatory work-related activity, if you fail to participate then your IS is reduced until you participate in the work-related activity.
You will not get this problem whilst on ESA and in the support group.
You may want to contact Gingerbread for advice on being a single parent, Gingerbread is an organisation for single parents www.gingerbread.org.uk, Their helpline number is 0808 802 0925.
