PIP Home visit was created by Poppy
I have just received my PIP letter giving me an appointment for a home visit. I didn't ask for a home visit so I am now panicking about why they have given it me. I have to cancel it anyway as it is too early in the morning for me and also I want my mum with me but she has a hospital appointment that day.
Why would they give me a home visit? Can they ask to look around your home? Can I ask to have a appointment at one of the centres instead of at home? I think I would prefer that, my home is my sanctuary and I like it to stay private.

A home visit is offered when the Assessment Provider believes that the claimant would struggle to attend at their offices.

They won't ask to look around your home but even if they did you can refuse, they are no more than any other visitor in your home.

You can switch to an appointment at their offices but before doing so consider whether this argues against any of the limitations that you stated on your form, in particular, the Going Out activity.

If you do cancel the current appointment then you must attend the new one or you risk your claim being closed.

I got a home visit without requesting it and was petrified too, because the only other assesment(at a centre) I ever had was for ESA and that was dreadful.
Anyway she came was pleasant and understanding, didn't ask to see anything in the house. I still didn't trust them but it was ok I got my PIP. Good luck to you.
